DIY Butcher Block Cutting Board Step by step
-
STEP: 1
Wrap wax paper around your bar clamps.
-
STEP: 2
Place your milled boards on the paper.
-
STEP: 3
Next, glue all the pieces together.
-
STEP: 4
Use your finger to spread the glue.
-
STEP: 5
Slowly tighten and adjust clamps.
-
STEP: 6
Try your best to make the boards flush.
-
STEP: 7
Wipe off any glue on the sides. You'll see why in a second!
-
STEP: 8
Clamp extra support boards on the sides. Tighten down all clamps firmly.
-
STEP: 9
Let the glue dry for about 20 minutes.
-
STEP: 10
Remove the glue before it completely dries.
-
STEP: 11
Flip over the board and remove the glue from the under-side, too.
-
STEP: 12
Let the board sit clamped overnight.
-
STEP: 13
Remove all clamps and support boards.
-
STEP: 14
Now it's time to sand. Start with 150 grit. Let the sander float over the board. Never sand in one place too long - this will ensure a flat and even surface.
-
STEP: 15
Soften the edges with a 150 grit sanding sponge.
-
STEP: 16
Repeat the same with 180 grit.
-
STEP: 17
Remember to tack off after sanding.
-
STEP: 18
Sand with a 180 grit sponge. This will remove any scratches left behind.
-
STEP: 19
Finally, it's time to condition your board. Use a food-safe product of your choice. Folow specific product instructions.
-
STEP: 20
Enjoy!
