Modern Farmhouse Furniture Ep 1 Step by step

  • STEP: 1

Pour a small amount of stripper into a metal pan. Apply a nice, even coat of stripper on the brush. Start at the top of the piece and brush towards the bottom. Always apply the stripper in one direction. Don't be afraid to go a little thick. Keep adding, in one line, all the way down. Once a small, workable section has been coated completely, walk away for 15 minutes and let the stripper do its magic.

  • STEP: 2

After it has set for 15 minutes, scrape with plastic scraper to remove the bulk of the finish.

  • STEP: 3

The next step in the process is to go over and give it a very through scrubbing with some scuff pads. Where the finish came off very easily, use the fine scuff pad to clean the area. Where the finish was a little more stubborn, use the medium scuff pad to remove the rest of the finish.

  • STEP: 4

Repeat this process on the rest of the piece, working in small sections at a time.

  • STEP: 5

Our piece has the patent number stamped on the back and we want to preserve it.

  • STEP: 6

The chemical stripper is very aggressive and will remove the stamp. To keep the stamp on the piece, use a cotton swab and denatured alcohol and rub carefully around the stamp. Make sure enough space is cleared around the outside of the stamp to ensure that the chemical stripper will not be coming into contact with the stamp. Once the area is clear, continue very carefully with the chemical stripper on the rest of the piece.

  • STEP: 7

Step one is done! The entire piece has been stripped of its finish and scrubbed thoroughly. It is ready for the next step in the process, which is surface preparation.
