Chelsea steps into the wood shop today to turn an old pallet into a brand new shelf. Pallet projects are super easy and also super fun. It’s no wonder they are so popular right now! Follow along as Chelsea shows step by step how to transform a pallet into a shelf.
- Use an orbital sander to transform a pallet into wood with a beautiful finish
- Use sanding sponges to smooth edges and reach where an orbital sander can't.

Pallet Shelf Supplies
- Pallet
- Reciprocating Saw
- Orbital Sander
- Hammer and Nails
- Tack Cloth
- 60-80-120 Grit Sanding Sponges
- 60-80-120 Grit Sanding Discs
Pallet Shelf Step by step

STEP: 1
Cut through the skid above the 2nd board.

Cut a piece off of the remaining skid. This will be the bottom of your shelf.

Use the Orbital sander to sand the entire shelf and the bottom piece with 60 Grit Sandpaper.

Use the 60 grit sanding sponge to smooth the edges.

STEP: 5
Be sure to wipe off the entire surface with tack cloth in between sanding grits.

Next repeat the process withe the 80 and 120 grit for a nice smooth surface.

Attach the bottom board to your shelf with hammer and nails.

Optional: Use a wipe-on stain of your choice. Use a brush to get into small cracks.

Complete the process with a spray-on polyurethane.

And there you have it. The finished shelf.
